6U | 8U Coach Skates

These skates are skills and drills practice sessions with our SAYHA 6U and 8U coaches to help your player keep in shape for the upcoming season (these skates are similar to what our regular season practices look like).

We are in need of USA Hockey certified coaches to run these skates for our players. Please email Neil Runbeck (neilrunbeck@gmail.com) if you’re interested in assisting. As our thank you, your player will skate for free!

Dates: June 14, June 28, July 5, July 12, July 19 and July 26 – 6 weeks
Time: Wednesday Nights from 5:15-6:15 PM on Rink 2 at Eagles Ice Arena (July 26 will be from 6:30-7:30 PM on Rink 1)
Age Divisions: Beginners, 6U and 8U players – players from all associations welcome!
Cost: $75 for 6 weeks or $15 per session (pre-registration required – no drop ins, please)

Consent to Treat Certification

I certify that on this date, as the parent or guardian of the player that I am registering, that I give my consent to Spokane Youth Hockey and its medical representative to obtain medical care from any licensed physician, hospital or clinic for the above mentioned participant, for any injury that could arise from participation in this league.

Spokane Youth Hockey Concussion Information Acknowledgement

A concussion is a brain injury and all brain injuries are serious. They are caused by a bump, blow or jolt to the head, or by a blow to another part of the body. Concussions can range from mild to sever and can disrupt the way the brain normally works. Even though most concussions are mild, all concussions are potentially serious and may result in complications including prolonged brain damage and death if not recognized and managed properly. In other words, even a “ding” or bump to the head can be serious. You can’t see a concussion and most sports concussions occur without loss of consciousness. Signs and symptoms of concussion may show up right after the injury or can take hours or days to fully appear. If your child reports any symptoms of concussion, or if you notice the symptoms or signs of concussion yourself, seek medical attention right away.

Symptoms may include one or more of the following:
-Headaches
-“Pressure in the head”
-Nausea or vomiting
-Neck pain
-Balance problems or dizziness
-Blurred, double or fuzzy vision
-Sensitivity to light or noise
-Feeling sluggish or slowed down
-Feeling foggy or groggy
-Drowsiness
-Change in sleep patterns
-Amnesia
-“Don’t feel right”
-Fatigue or low energy
-Sadness
-Nervousness or anxiety
-Irritability
-More emotional
-Confusion
-Concentration or memory problems (forgetting game plays)
-Repeating the same question/comment

Signs observed by teammates, parents and coaches may include:
-Appears dazed
-Vacant facial expression
-Confused about assignment
-Forgets play
-Is unsure of game, score or opponent
-Moves clumsily or displays incoordination
-Answers questions slowly
-Slurred speech
-Shows behavior or personality changes
-Can’t recall events prior to hit
-Can’t recall events after hit
-Seizures or convulsions
-Any change in typical behavior or personality
-Loses consciousness

What can happen if my child keeps on playing with a concussion or returns too soon?
Athletes with the signs and symptoms of concussion should be removed from play immediately. Continuing to play with the signs and symptoms of a concussion leaves the young athlete especially vulnerable to greater injury. There is an increased risk of significant damage from a concussion for a period of time after that concussion occurs, particularly if the athlete suffers another concussion before completely recovering from the first one. This can lead to prolonged recovery, or even to severe brain swelling (second impact syndrome) with devastating and even fatal consequences. It is well known that adolescent or teenage athletes will often under report symptoms of injuries. Concussions are no different. As a result, education of administrators, coaches, parents and students is the key for youth athlete safety.

What to do if you think your child has suffered a concussion.
An athlete with a suspected concussion should be removed from the game or practice immediately. The suspected concussion should be reported to your child’s coach and coaching director if you think that your child may have a concussion. An Accident Report Form should be filled out with the details surrounding the incident and submitted immediately to Spokane Youth Hockey. Close observation of the athlete should continue for several hours. No athlete may return to activity after an apparent head injury or concussion – regardless of how mild it seems or how quickly symptoms clear – without clearance from a licensed medical professional. This signed Release Form must be returned to Spokane Youth Hockey with the appropriate signatures before a player will be allowed to return to play.

This Spokane Youth Hockey policy complies with the Zackery Lystedt Law in Washington state that requires the consistent and uniform implementation of long and well-established return to play concussion guidelines, namely that “a young athlete who is suspected of sustaining a concussion or head injury in a practice or game shall be removed from competition at that time” and “may not return to play until the athlete is evaluated by a licensed health care provider trained in the evaluation and management of concussion and received written clearance to return to play from that health care provider.”

When in doubt, the athlete sits out. Remember, it’s better to miss one game than to miss the whole season.

Waiver of Liability, Financial Acknowledgement and Privacy Policy

By registering with Spokane Americans Youth Hockey Association (SAYHA), the participant and his/her parents or guardians consents to participate at his/her own risk. SAYHA and its owners, employees or agents, shall not be liable for any damage whatsoever arising from any personal injury or property loss sustained by participant or his/her family in relation to any SAYHA programs. Participants and parents assume full responsibility for all injuries and damages which occur in relation to any programs. He/She does hereby fully and forever release, discharge and hold harmless SAYHA, all associated facilities and its owners, employees, and agents from any and all claims, demands, damages or rights of action, present or future, resulting from any person’s participation in any programs or use of the facility. In addition, he/she agree(s) to follow the rules of conduct and play set by USA Hockey. Failure to do so may result in suspension from participation. By registering, you authorize SAYHA and its assigns to utilize any and all photographs, pictures or other likeness of me or anyone assigned guardianship to me, as they deem appropriate in promotional materials or team films. 

Financial Obligations

By registering with SAYHA, participant and his/her parents or guardian agree to pay all incurred fees due SAYHA.

Any returned NSF checks will result in a fee of $25 being added to your account.

Privacy Policy

We take your right to privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy deals with personally identifiable information that may be collected by us on our site. SAYHA collects data provided by you only when the data is voluntarily submitted in forms. If you contact us by email, we may keep a record of that correspondence for future reference. We use the information you provide about yourself and your child when submitting a form only to process the request. We do not share this information with outside parties except to the extent necessary to process the request or for legal process, to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims, to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations, or as otherwise required by law.
